Bukidnon: A Weekend at Dahilayan

Went away for the weekend to Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon! Yay! You could say this was a Dahilayan Weekend. It was lovely and windy way to de-stress from the everyday work routine by being disconnected for a while and just simply taking in a breath of cold fresh air in the mountains. I simply cannot stop pointing out that the weather was exaggeratedly windy and cold day and night! Wish I packed more jackets but this girl has to pack light. There were several things that happened along the way like missing the bus and being ushered to a detour because our mode of transportation wasn’t registered. You can check out what happened by clicking on the photos!

A Dahilayan Weekend

First things first though, there are two resorts that are adjacent to each other which are Dahilayan Forest Park and Dahilayan Adventure Park. The two have their own varied attractions therefore if you go to one, I recommend you go to the other.

Did I also tell you that there may be some rides you cannot take part in if you lean more on the heavy side. You can read more about it by clicking the photo below.

The all around cool breeze blanketed in clouds and mountain ranges. Towering pine trees and lush meadows as far as the eye can see.  This is what it means to be in Dahilayan, Bukidnon. A scene you’d never expect to see here in Mindanao and yet here I am off to spend a weekend here enjoying all it had to offer with the touch of a button thanks to an app with the best deals! I’ll tell you more about this particular app and how you can try it yourself by clicking the photo below!

Here I go eating my way around the area. Their hot coco is exquisite (you can see I’m halfway through already) that I had to go for seconds. I guess this has become my sorta food guide with what’s available in the area. P.S. Always go for pizza.

She Gets Inked

Nope, that my friend ain’t me. That’s Jilly and she just had her first ever tattoo done by Junepher of F.O.D. Hardcore Tattoo Shop. She had been planning this for years and I guess this was the day to get it. I was commissioned do the design. She asked for a dragonfly to be done because she had this affinity to dragonflies. Color was very much welcomed with her request and the splatters was her suggestion.

inkeddragonfly3

I teased her if it hurt and all she did was smile about it while continuing on with reading a book she brought with her. The session took about an hour and fifteen minutes.

inkeddragonfly5

Here it is without the colors yet. Nicely done eh? It didn’t bleed much but then again it could be because of the location or Jilly was pretty calm about it. I even asked Junepher at some point if I could be his apprentice and he agreed if I had my own machine. Let’s see where this goes… 🙂
inkeddragonfly

inkeddragonfly1Here’s the final output. As you can see this is the part where there was some blood letting. I’m pretty sure this was the part that stung.Another thing about this tattoo is that she has not even told her parents about it to this day considering that they’re living under the same roof. I wonder what they’re reaction will be when they find out. Now that we’re at the end of my story, I will leave you with tips I learned when you decide to get a tattoo of your own for the first time:

  • Do not get your tattoo on a whim.
  • Choose your artist wisely.
  • Custom art is what it’s all about
  • Don’t haggle with the rate.
  • It’s going to hurt but you can handle it.
  • Aftercare is extremely important.
  • The tattoo is going to itch like b**** while its healing.
  • If the tattoo has any meaning to you and you’ve been thinking about it for a while, then you’re probably not going to regret anything.

Here are some resources I’ve found along the way:

Procrastinating With Images

Quick scribbles of me done by my sister at an interval of every three minutes. I swear I did not make her do this, she took photos of me in secret and drew them on some random notebook. It feels nice when they surprise you with drawings because I’m usually the one doing the other way around.  I’m pretty sure this was the time when I was waiting for a reply from the SO….or I could be just watching videos of fluffy kitties. Does that count as procrastinating?

ali-draws5ali-draws4The drawings just reminded me of how unproductive I have been that day. But hey, it’s healthy to do nothing once in a while. I know i’m procrastinating but I can’t help it. The pillows (I was in bed that time) have accepted me as one of their own. Don’t worry though, I know i’ll be moving my butt after this. Just give me some time even if its just a couple of hours and I will get my shit done after this.

ali-draws1

It’s one of those days where you don’t feel like doing anything at all. I’ve been pretty busy lately with work and several part-time jobs that I do not have time to simply do nothing and its these days that make me feel recharged for tomorrow’s activities.

ali-draws3

I don’t want to go back to my old ways of falling pretty hard over hurdles. Hardships are temporary and this is the time for growth, that’s what I tell myself. This is growing and I am training my mind to see the positive in every situation. Today will just plainly be my rest day.
ali-draws2

I decided to turn my phone off and spend time with my siblings who I don’t see very much. And hey, dear reader, I’m also here to remind you that it’s okay to be down in the dumps on some days. Just don’t stay there for too long. People that matter in your life will surely miss you, plus there are so many possibilities you can do in this world, follow your passion. Enjoy life without spending a single dime and go be creative in your way.

I’m having trouble sleeping too, but that’s another story. Ta-ta and thanks for reading!

Childhood Regression, An Unofficial Play-doh Unboxing

Nobody, I repeat, nobody is never too old to play with Play-doh. We got our hands messy unboxing and trying out Sweet Bakin’ Creations Playset by Play-doh. Ah childhood regression at it’s best because 90’d kids love to get their hands busy!

Nurture your child’s creativity and imagination with this Play-Doh Sweet Bakin’ Creations Play Set. It can make all kinds of sweet “treats” in different sizes and designs. The rollers and molds help create pretend cupcakes, frosting, cookies and cakes that look tasty enough to eat. The four colors of modeling compound included in the Play-Doh toys set lets kids mix and match to make all kinds of delicious “desserts. – Amazon

The playset contained 4 pieces of (4oz.) cans in mint green, brown, pink and white. The set also included various cookie moulds, a cake server(the trowel), a knife, a plate,  3 layered cake tier stamps, cupcake containers, an icing presser (the syringe), a candle mould and their “oven” in a bright yellow color!

We had to figure out the purpose for each item and I don’t think our minds stayed as innocent as it was more than a decade ago though. See for yourself and do subscribe to my youtube channel for more stuff!

We Push Paraded!

First things first, what is this Go Skateboarding Day they speak of?

Go Skateboarding Day (GSD) is an official annual holiday conceived by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to promote skateboarding. It is usually marked on June 21. It has been on Father’s Day. – Wikipedia

It is mostly organized by your respective local skateboarders and it’s a nice opportunity to meet new faces and take part in the Push Parade! It’s a parade of skateboarders and longboarders around the city. Since the weather wasn’t too friendly, the 7:30 AM parade was postponed to 9AM. I brought along Leia so she could experience this gathering as well even if she was what you may call a newbie. 🙂

As you can see we became the passenger driver combo (2 girls 1 longboard haha). I pushed while she led on with the directions. It was a struggle at first but we eventually got the hang of it and as you can see we bailed several times but it was alright. Neither of us were seriously injured. I found it amusing how Leia kept freaking out most of the time.

Me coaxing Leia to use the cruiser while I hold on to the video. This was during the beginning and we were the last of the group but that was alright. It’s good that I got to meet new and old faces during the parade.

IMG_8148

Pink faced and drenched in sweat. I was pushing for two! What an exercise it was. We went around the city! Did you know some of the skaters there came from distant provinces.

Warming up before their competition.

Good food. Rice toppings at 35php only! I was too hungry that I only remembered to take a photo when I was almost done. Lol. Hello there hun!

DSC_0026DSC_0129DSC_0183

Unfortunately, the rain put the competition at a pause halfway by 4PM and most of the winner weren’t finalized yet. The continuation was done a couple of days later.

Iligan City seriously needs a skate park considering that there are so many skaters here. Different courts are abundant but skaters want a public skate park.  If you don’t want them in the streets, then give them a safe environment where they can skate. Most skateboarding injuries happen in the streets. The most common injuries are falls due to surface irregularities and collisions with motor vehicles or pedestrians. Skateboarding is going to happen whether skateparks exist or not. Better make a place for it.

Cliff Swinging at MSU Marawi

So I went to Ayin’s graduation at MSU Marawi on a early and fine day. We took the jeep which was probably the safest and commonly used mode of transportation these days at only 50php! The duration of the trip is at about an hour but may take 2 hours when theres heavy traffic. I would also like to note that the jeepney may not be that comfortable most of the time because the drivers insist on only leaving when everybody has been sardined inside his hunk of jeep. You get to meet a lot of characters there too ranging from the old, young and any sort you can mention. The air in Marawi was very cool that most people wear winter clothing during early mornings and late at night which I have yet to experience.

DSC_0051

Ayin has a tendency to go all artsy fartsy as well considering that her specialty is creating murals. This is was one of her projects.

DSC_0069

This is their pater. I found it a bit dry but fulfilling all the same. Too bad there was no palapa that time.

DSC_0123

We went to the linely dairy farm I found the area very calm and there was not much people that time.

DSC_0100

It was Ate She who suggested we go here and we did! This was a section of their dairy farm Too bad they didn’t have any milk available that time I was excitedly waiting to get my hands on them in a literally very fresh sense.

DSC_0225

Ayin then brought us to a secret spot (this was where she learned her longboard sliding skills) which was a thirty minute walk uphill and beyond the cornfields was a most spectacular view.

DSC_0190

I told you it was spectacular.

DSC_0281

I’m gonna miss you a bunchies and I can’t wait to hear more stories of your future adventures!

They had a makeshift swing made out of a tiny sack and some rope by the cliff and it was awesome! I look forward to going back there just to simply go on a gastronomic trip on a non-Ramadan month. Most of the food stalls were closed during this time.

A Morning Stroll at Luinab

We were supposed to catch the sunrise and take some decent photos but it looks like we arrived a bit too late. We left the house by 5AM. The path was short compared to our other treks and the steepness wasn’t that difficult. The view was awesome and nothing can ever go wrong with a whiff of fresh air in the morning after sweating off the toxins. There was a cornfield at the top. We had ice cream after made by a local ice cream maker. Our company was composed of Leia, Yobz, Jophet and Lupe.

Breaking The Blinking Cursor

Hello there! I just wanted to let you know i’m still alive and kicking. I took a break from a lot of things and I am now back on track. I’ve been feeling out of sorts the past couple of months and I felt like I wanted to get a breather from the www. I haven’t talked to people much and there are a ton of things I have to do. I’m thinking of getting a planner even though it might be a bit late seeing as it’s already the midyear. Oh well, maybe this could help me out with my schedule in some way. I’ve discovered something new and this would be doing hair tattoos for fun. I haven’t gone out in a while, you could say I have become a shut-in as of late.

yang

Another thing is that my beloved camera has passed on…to another owner. That hit the depression box for me big time. Now i’m on the lookout for a new one (i’m open to secondhand ones as well) and i’ve got a feeling it’s going to take a bit of time. Just thinking about it tears my heart (and wallet) into pieces. I’m thinking of doing a garage sale. I’ve already got the items ready and i’ll be posting them later to my facebook profile after I finish editing a hunk of photos and videos from previous shoots

Note to self:

  • Look for ways to motivate yourself!
  • Write down your to-do’s
  • Do memory exercises
  • Talk to people
  • Stop overthinking

Earth Day InstaMeet and Giveaway!

Free stuff from Human Heart Nature and Instagram! Photo by: Leia Khu

If you came here solely for the giveaway then just scroll down and start reading from there! Instagram is truly an incredible app that brings many people together who all have a love for photos and social media combined. So how do you step out of your comfort zone to a meet for a cause while joining the worldwide fun? Instagram has the answer. A Worldwide Instameet.

What is an InstaMeet? Basically it’s when people from around the world  will connect together to explore, share photographic tips and tricks, and take photos and videos together and then upload them to Instagram. It’s a coordinated meetup where people can discuss about anything under the sun and connect not just with social media but in real life.

I may not be an Instagram addict (well, not lately really) but I do care for Mother Earth and this year’s instameet weekend falls on Earth Day (April 22). It would be an opportunity missed had I decided not to go. Also, they invited me and John to sing a song or two during that said meetup but he had other plans so it was Andrei and Porsche.

This is my first time joining an InstaMeet so I was pretty nervous for the most part. This meet here was held on the 23rd of April (there was a 1 day delay but that was okay) at Human Heart Nature, a company that supports and sells Philippine made products for Filipinos. It was sponsored by Dakila, the Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism. A group of artists, students, and individuals committed to working together to creatively spark social consciousness formation towards social change. It was Jessica who organized and made this event happen along with the help of many who were in for the cause. The main topic of discussion was about creating a clean, sustainable future that’s coal-free.

Coal is one of the dirtiest sources of energy. It is dangerous, not only for the environment, but also for people’s health. We need to encourage our government to stop investing in coal and start investing more in renewable energy.

So how can you help? Sign up and do the Uncoal pledge here. They need about 500 signatures for this one and taking the time to sign up for this one would be gladly appreciated. Join the climate revolution! They’ll keep you posted for upcoming events and activities that one can take part in and just simply give back what you can. In a world where likes, selfies and hashtags consume us, we forget that the true power of social media comes from its ability to cultivate relationships and art in real life. For those inspired to include a public service element to their InstaMeet, use the #LifeOnEarthWWIM13 hashtag to share and explore the many ways the Instagram community gives back during the weekend. uncoal4

Roses – The Chainsmokers – John and Porsche Acoustic Cover

So that’s me and John doing a cover of Roses originally by The Chainsmokers during Lola G’s monthly open mic and spoken word poetry night. Truth be told we only decided to sing that song a couple of hours ago and I barely memorized the lyrics added with the mini crowd anxiety attack prior to singing. I’ll do better next time.

Thanks for this video My Iligan City and Lola G Coffee Library for the chance to play!
